PPColorado Print Competition

About 3-4 weeks ago I entered the Professional Photographers of Colorado State Print Competition.  It was a very fun experience and I highly recommend any photographer to give it a try!

I submitted 4 images, in various categories, and walked away with 1 merited print, which I was VERY excited about!
I actually thought I would walk into a large room, with prints hanging everywhere with notes/critique for each print.  I was WAY off!  :-)  The room was dark and filled with about 40-50 photographers and 4 judges.  There was a big gray-fabric screen with a small opening for prints. The judging was actually going to occur right in front of everyone…suddenly, I felt very nervous.  I patiently waited for my print to show up for all to see.  If I remember correctly, a “79″ or “80″ was noted as my average score.  Then a judge said “challenge!”.  Ahhhhh, now this is when it starts to sound a bit like a court room than a print competition.  Each judge states why is should be rated higher (or lower) and then they re-vote.  One judge was pushing for a higher score on my portrait submission.  I think my final score may have ended up at either an 80 or 81, which is considered a “merited” print.  Very exciting!!
So, here is the image that merited (look familiar?):
